Head of the Launchpad Programme
Nick Dixon is the Head of the Launchpad Programme and responsible for overseeing its successful delivery. Nick is a games industry veteran with over 15 years’ experience in game design, creative direction and pitching. Nick has created successful concepts for original IP and high-profile franchises, which have signed to generate over £30 million of development business.
Commercialisation & Investment Manager
Michael joined the Falmouth Launchpad team in March 2017 after spending 30 years in the banking world. Through his career he has worked in development capital to provide finance to growing businesses and developed portfolio management activities at three large international banks. These roles have required defining portfolio management strategies and building governance structures as well as structuring and distributing in excess of $50bn of capital / risk management transactions to institutional investors.
Business Development Manager
Jo is responsible for identifying and working with Industry Partners to develop the Launchpad challenges. She has over 20 years’ experience of working with partners within the private, voluntary and public sectors. This involved supporting the start-up of social enterprises, developing multi-sector partnerships, undertaking project and programme management, working for an Economics and Planning Consultancy and also developing the evidence base for a €600 million European economic funding programme to support business R&D, innovation, productivity and growth.
Phil Marshall is the Launchpad Studio Manager and is responsible for the day to day running of the Launchpad Studio. Phil has worked for Falmouth University for a number of years, joining the University in 2007. Phil worked within IT Services working for various teams on a number of successful projects. In March 2017 Phil joined the Launchpad team. Outside of the University Phil is a keen guitarist, cyclist and father to two daughters.
Dr Liying Meng
Liying is responsible for supporting the graduates through the Master Entrepreneurship qualification. She has been coaching and lecturing entrepreneurship since 2008. Her coaching is informed by direct engagement in entrepreneurial activities (established, sold, acquired and owns firms), participating in business decision making through directorships for two companies and being active in research.
Lead Software Engineer
Ben looks after the technical side of Launchpad. Having started out at a young age wanting to be an engineer, he has spent his career to date pursuing and enjoying that vocation – building software and leading teams in areas ranging from automotive engineering and embedded image processing to offshore renewable energy. Along that path he’s discovered that it takes not simply bright individuals, but high-performing teams to deliver effectively, and his role here reflects that.
