Head of the Launchpad Programme
Having grown up in a family of entrepreneurs, James has been motivated in his journey as an entrepreneurial leader and change-maker by seeing first-hand how innovation is a driving force for economic growth and personal development. He has led award-winning entrepreneurship programmes at the Universities of Cardiff, Dundee, and most notably at Oxford Saïd Business School; establishing the Oxford Launchpad, now Oxford Foundry. In these roles James successfully brought together multidisciplinary global networks and communities to exchange knowledge, collaborate, and create economic and social impact. After Oxford he joined a San Francisco based venture capital fund. Here he played a pivotal role in sourcing, evaluating, and coaching new impactful businesses across Europe.
Lead Software Engineer
Ben looks after the technical side of Launchpad. Having started out at a young age wanting to be an engineer, he has spent his career to date pursuing and enjoying that vocation – building software and leading teams in areas ranging from automotive engineering and embedded image processing to offshore renewable energy. Along that path he’s discovered that it takes not simply bright individuals, but high-performing teams to deliver effectively, and his role here reflects that.
Business Development Manager
Jo is responsible for identifying and working with Industry Partners to develop the Launchpad challenges. She has over 20 years’ experience of working with partners within the private, voluntary and public sectors. This involved supporting the start-up of social enterprises, developing multi-sector partnerships, undertaking project and programme management, working for an Economics and Planning Consultancy and also developing the evidence base for a €600 million European economic funding programme to support business R&D, innovation, productivity and growth.
Phil Marshall is the Launchpad Studio Manager and is responsible for the day to day running of the Launchpad Studio. Phil has worked for Falmouth University for a number of years, joining the University in 2007. Phil worked within IT Services working for various teams on a number of successful projects. In March 2017 Phil joined the Launchpad team. Outside of the University Phil is a keen guitarist, cyclist and father to two daughters.
MSc Entrepreneurship Course Leader
Alex is an experienced Senior Lecturer with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education industry. He is skilled in Coaching, Entrepreneurship, Lecturing, Documentary Film Making and Editing.
IT & AV Technical Support
Colin Mitchell supports the IT systems in the Launchpad Studio. Colin has built and supported technical installations for many years. He also has a background in games development, and supports our games teams both technically and creatively.
Games Technology Coach
Adrian is the Launchpad expert in games production and technology. He mentors the teams working in games and using games technology, both in planning and production. Adrian also brings his expertise in business development, to work with industry partners and assist the teams with publisher relations.
Senior Investment Manager
Alex is a versatile financial markets professional and proven investor of almost two decades, having numerous successful exits which include the initial public offering of a company he founded. In addition to an extensive knowledge of corporate finance, capital markets and their associated compliance, reporting and regulation, he holds a unique buy- and sell-side ground up insight, with first-hand experience as a founder, fundraiser, private and public investor, trader, executive board member, reporting issuer and more recently advisor.
Investment Portfolio Manager
Adrian joined Launchpad in August 2020 as the Investment Portfolio Manager. Previous to this Adrian had worked at a number of financial technology companies focused on innovation and disruptive technologies in the venture capital and platform space. Prior to this he specialised predominately on pension scheme investments with a strong focus on investment due diligence and monitoring. Adrian has completed the Investment Management Certificate and is a Charted Financial Analyst.
